having a real bed has some unfortunate side effects. previously, my eyes would be low enough such that the street light outside would be blocked by the wall. what's doubly-bad now, however, is that there are no leaves on the trees outside, so the light can shine on my face, not unlike what happened to a certain hipster-doofus.
while browsing amazon for some curtains, i came upon this:
it reminded me of something.

new rule
here it is: it's not fair to dress your grown son, who has down syndrome, in a "Jesus is my BOSS" t-shirt.
that is all.

if you thought this week's 30 rock seemed familiar...
...you might be remembering this. be sure to skip the first few paragraphs; they are mostly incoherent.
now that hockey is all but finished, it's nice to have my stories back again.

good job
i bought another record over the weekend, and like some others i've seen recently, it included a coupon for downloading the album on mp3 (which i think is almost totally the most awesome thing). i typed in the url printed on the paper (subpop.com/download_code) and the page came up fine. but i noticed that the url was actually printed in all caps: HTTP://WWW.SUBPOP.COM/DOWNLOAD_CODE. unfortunately, while protocols and domain names are case insensitive, some operating systems' filesystems are broken, and when i typed the url in all caps, i got a 404 page.
thanks, unix!

i don't know why i bother
Why is the government so generous? Because ethanol is just about the only alternative-energy initiative that has broad political support. Farmers love it because it provides a new source of subsidy. Hawks love it because it offers the possibility that America may wean itself off Middle Eastern oil. The automotive industry loves it, because it reckons that switching to a green fuel will take the global-warming heat off cars. The oil industry loves it because the use of ethanol as a fuel additive means it is business as usual, at least for the time being. Politicians love it because by subsidising it they can please all those constituencies. Taxpayers seem not to have noticed that they are footing the bill.

i got some new shoes today.

a natural reaction
surprisingly my patch worked, so it was time to race the red sox fans home in time for HOCKEY PLAYOFFS! when i was at cmu i was lucky enough to see a couple of playoff games there (i think against the hated habs), and i am looking forward to watching them knock out the hated sens.
but i went for a run first. apparently allergy season started while i was out there.
We've built infrastructure which allows us to detect whenever an application crashes...gather detailed information like a stack trace and ask the user if he's willing to give it back to us.

integrating all that 20th century technology must be exhausting.
also my tivo is dumb. i told it to record an hour extra of each game that's on oln tonight. the games are 30 minutes apart, but it didn't complain about a conflict. i figured it knew to just clip one of them since they're on the same channel, but no, it's actually recording the same thing on both tuners.

week seven
do not believe their lies: "Fog/Mist" really means "light sleet." i could barely open the door when i got back. my arms were bright pink. maybe it is time to get a long sleeve shirt and gloves. but it was a good run; definitely went better than the first thirteen mile run last summer. twelve weeks left:
Jacob Berkman is Registered for
HSBC Calgary Marathon in the Marathon
the tsn feed we got in "bonus coverage" has ruined the rest of the american broadcasts. the canadian announcers just seem to know the game better. even more striking, the sabres 5-on-5 last night looked like they were on a power play. and not the shorthanded surrendering bruins powerplay: crisp, tape-to-tape passes between all five skaters.
and i'm looking forward to playoff hockey in calgary and minnesota this week. it can kind of take the edge off the terrible new england april weather.
when the flames win this series, i am going to miss hasek skating off the ice whenever a delayed penalty against detroit is pending.

god that was strange to see you again
introduced by a friend of a friend
smiled and said, "yes I think we've met before"
in that instant it started to pour
