finally too cool for tumblr.
did you mean:

updates,
wednesday lite,
strava, or
results: usac,
obra.
it rained this morning, and so boston smelled pretty nice.

algiers (twice!) and then charlie's with tom and alex.
some of the baby ducks are almost full grown, and there are some more tiny ones.

couldn't sleep all that well, so i was in the office before 7. might actually be able to get some work done.
note to self: there is VERY LOUD DRILLING in the floor above our space before 10 AM. do not get to the office before this time.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN PCMCIA CARDS INTO THE SLOT...

interesting walk to work today (IMA2). started off with a tow truck with the license plate "REPO". then, there were no less than 3 ambulances and like 7 police cars with lights flashing (either 2 or 3 separate incidents; i'm not sure if the two groups of vehicles on the harvard bridge were together or not). also saw 2 dead baby birds (chickens, i think, but they were right below where pigeons are known to live). and near the office i ran into one of the people from the burrito place.
yeah so i got my laptop back yesterday, and it is all about not booting. so spent quite a while on the phone with sony tech support (again) and am sending it back (again) and this time they are supposedly sending me a new unit. unfortunately, this new one will not have a bt sticker on it, so i will have to try to obtain another from somewhere. and my trusty old n505 keeps working fine. the other day nat was talking about being attracted to the wrong people; my relationship with the SR is a good example of this.
went to the steak place by the office for lunch. vlad, itp, and i ordered some appitizers. we were surprised to find that our meal came and there were no appitizers. i asked the waiter what happened to them, and he said he thought we didn't want them. i said i did. they never came. i found that odd.

read pokey the penguin all day. no work done.
hacked up a storm at algiers, though. i think i will end up at algiers tomorrow, even though i don't want to.

i think i will end up at algiers today, even though i don't want to.
so i was all at joe's watching hockey instead of going to algiers and then forces beyond my control forced me to go.

put my vaio in the box to go back to sony for the last time.

woke up pretty early, even though i went to sleep around 9 last night.
my disk got corrupted again friday. spent the morning getting things from my backup of a week ago.
the worst part is i lost the history of which pokeys i had read.
algiers is a lot nicer (emptier) these days. worked there on the selection stuff. sadly i'm too tired to really finish it. but at least the cancel button works now.

at some point last night i had a dream (amongst many) that there was an aphex twin vs. led zeppelin cd. it was by far the coolest thing i've ever heard. like, ever.
yet another night of algiers/charlie's/cave.

today is courtney's birthday.
while at the burrito place with nat, aaron, and mike m sony called me saying they haven't gotten my laptop yet. ugh. hopefully they will, or it will be admitted as lost since it's all insured and stuff. this celeron sucks for building evolution.
i am hoping my corruption was caused by running hdparm -c1 rather than -c3. i am so paranoid it is going to happen again. but am i making daily backups of my mail? no.
had a cool idea for a hack in evo today. for patch attachments, there could be an option in the menu for "apply to directory" so you don't have to save it and run patch manually. actually, it is probabloy really easy, since i could probably just write a frontend to patch and set it as the default mime handler for patch files. that would be so boss.
file-sel is coming along. got the cancel button all hooked up and some other things. there are still a couple of tough things. it's annoying that clicking on a button gives the button focused, as i would like to know whether the flist was focused when the button was clicked or not, since one needs to know whether to get the file name from the selected files or from the file name entry.
cleaned up the apartment a little, as there was a smell coming from the kitchen.
algiers, charlie's.

lenza said this was funny.
my laptop has been found. sony had it. whee. they are sending me an r505. and the n505 now seems to have a bad pixel :(
i've been working on the file selector for a month now, apparently. i might soon port the icon list to using e-table-model.
i am really tired tonight, apparently. and it was mad hot in boston today.

i found myself with nat and joe at Supercuts. it was pretty impressive; there was this huge sea of people cutting hair. we were standing in line, and joe pushed me and i fell into this couple in front of us. then nat and joe were at the front of the line, and ordering their haircuts. nat said i wasn't getting one, because he liked how my hair was.
i went and sat on some seats and got my laptop out. i could hear some Bad Trance (this is the second dream this week where i can remember hearing music. i've had other dreams in the past where this is the case, which leads me to believe that my dreams are filled with as much music as my waking hours).
then we were walking through the mall, and nat wanted to stop at a woolworth's. he was picking out some garbage bags, and then some towels, and i suggested he call R. back. so he did, and started to leave a message but then was kind of arguing, so she was actually on the phone. i don't remember their conversation much, but it didn't go well, and nat blamed me.
we were then driving along. nat was driving really fast, and not very straight. i remember asking him to drive more safely or something. we were going along a straight section with cement pillars to the left of us, and he was kind of veering into them (his car really does need some reallignment and what not). i grabbed the wheel, trying to keep us going straight, and he started accelerating.
for some reason, this reminded me of that one scene in fight club...
anyway we were going faster and around some curve and there were police cars and i was getting pretty scared, and was trying to steer the car. the next thing i remember is that we're kind of tumbling, and nat's saying "now you've really done it". i looked out, and we were like 100 ft. in the air, starting to fall.
this really freaked me out.
so we were falling, and starting to fall really fast. evidently i do believe in the afterlife, because i figured i would see nat (and eventually joe) there, which made things not so frightening.
anyway, as we were approaching the ground, i remember thinking "wow, this is it" and stuff. we made one last half-rotation of the car and then hit the ground with quite some force, and i had this really weird sensation - kind of like a shiver but more weird. i kind of woke up at this point, but was still in a dream-like state. i was trying to figure out if i had died or not. i could hear some rain, and had a vague sense of being and being surrounded by other things, but i was pretty scared of trying to move, because i really thought i might be dead.
so i slowly tried to move my fingers, and they moved so i realized i was alive.
it's not even 6 AM, but i don't think i can go back to sleep.
anyway, this all sucks cause i was in a good mood last night. hopefully this won't ruin my day.
fortunately i fell asleep for an couple of hours more.
no r505. evening: algiers with tom, then charlie's where we met up with the birthday boy (ettore) and a bunch of people. quite fun (that sounds like something mr. meeks would say)

read flamage for two hours.
the r505 is here :) got it working pretty much. Fn-Esc doesn't seem to suspend, and doing Fn-F12 suspends but i couldn't get it to unsuspend (some people apparently call this "resuming"). apm might be broken on it entirely, and i don't have network so i can't get acpid. the internal ethernet works and xfree 4.1.0 supports the i815 video chipset. whee.
12 inch screens are so big. time to make my fonts smaller again. and the display on this thing is nice. i can really see the e-table line coloration (which i couldn't really see before). perhaps that is a gamma correction thing.
and so the week begins anew: algiers, charlie's.

did two bug-buddy tarballs (only one release). this fixed the stupid cache (again) and also sets From: (i don't know why it wasn't - it had in the past).
hacked around the is-the-flist-focused-when-ok-is-clicked thing in file-sel. i don't really like the solution i came up with but it seems to work.
wrote a little applet for setting the brightness of my lcd. put it into grungies. you need Andrew Tridgell's setbrightness program from his picturebook hacks for it to work. it sucks, but it works better than nothing.
feeling tired again. maybe it is because i wake up at 7 every day.
